Embrace a New Decade of Kitchen Cabinetry Designs

The kitchen, the heart of the home, has always been a place of warmth, love, and delectable creations. As we step into the new decade, there are many changes in cabinet trends. In 2023, functionality meets historical details most interestingly. From inset cabinetry to hidden pantries, things are a-changin'.

Stained Wood - Both light and dark. Walnut is hugely sought after right now, but so is white maple. While both are beautiful, they bring very different looks to your kitchen. I'm so happy to see wood in kitchen cabinetry again. Wood brings so much warmth and a touch of nature to our most used room.

The modern European kitchen below by Brepurposed is the perfect example modern functionality meets historical details.

Detailed Cabinet Door Profiles - Shaker style has been the king of cabinets for over a decade now, and we are finally seeing more detail added. Often it is the simple addition of a bevel or a skinny half-round detail that makes such a difference. We are also seeing more flat panel profiles, often with a tiny rail or small bevel. If you are looking for a change, fluting can add texture to a simple design.

Cutouts - are used in laundry and mudroom cabinetry and add a rustic, historic flair to the space. They can also be used as pulls on flat-panel cabinets in a modern space. They're something to think about. I do.

Glass doors are always on trend. The glass trending today has historical roots. There is a resurgence of reeded glass, leaded glass, and stained glass. These glass inserts can often be changed easily. So live a little and choose something you love.

Statement hardware and built-in appliances take a kitchen to the next level. Built-in appliances have to be purchased ready to accept a cabinet door, so you have to plan this look in advance. But who doesn't love a refrigerator without fingerprints? Statement hardware can be pricey. Like the cost of a small car pricey. But there are many less expensive, beautiful options, so don't get discouraged while shopping.

Statement islands - We are seeing curves coming back in today's kitchens. We haven't seen curves since the 1980s, but they make sense on an island. A curved island makes it easier to stand around to food prep and socialize. But the historical nod to make an island look like a piece of furniture makes my heart sing! If I were Oprah, everyone would get a beautiful island in their kitchen.

As always, choose what you love and do what you can afford.
